draft: Competence.
The term was first brought to my attention by a link to the blog of one of the writers of Leverage. (additional link to tv tropes, discussion regarding comics and competence from box in the box)
Arent we all tired of the fake drama? Knowing what the characters in the show dont know, and agonizing over whether or not they are going to tell one another?
This is so very overdone. So very tiresome.
All of the people i have talked to dont want to deal with it anymore.
We want to actually enjoy what we are watching, not have manufactured tension because the characters dont talk to one another.
@McKelvie stated on twitter that he really liked FlashForward because the characters actually tell eachother important information.
I really liked this too, it was such a relief to get down to what was actually happening, instead of suffering through "An American Tale" type situations.
You know what i am talking about -- we all watched that little mouse miss his family by looking the other way, being just around a corner, my little six year old heart ached as i yelled at the tv FIEVEL! YOUR PARENTS ARE JUST OVER THERE!

This is not drama. This is not good storytelling. This is aggrivation. This is killing time.
I dont want to watch a show where characters are obtuse and cant put one and one together. I want to see people who are proficient at something BE proficient. Detectives should solves cases, superheroes should be super. Scientists should solve problems, etc. THAT is what i want.
(this post is a draft, i will clean it up later, but anyone that reads is welcome to comment)

When Did You Know You Were a Geek?
this is a reply i made to geekgirldiva's post.
i knew i liked playing video games, i knew that i tended to like "boy movies" instead of "girl movies", but i always thought that i would grow out of it. That i would one day choose shoes over games (i do like shoes, but i LOVE games) and that i would "grow up". I realized that this wouldn't happen when i was totally unhappy at my "grown-up job" (desk monkey at IBM) and that if i wanted to be happy in life, i needed to do something that i loved, and that thing was making video games.
I had gamed a lot as a kid, then i had sort of tried to get away from it, because i didnt know any people that shared my interest (pre-broadband internet) and it was lonely having an interest that i couldnt share -- when games had "2 player" on the box i knew i would only get to play 1.
But i had always kept up with industry news, i had continued to play various games, and then i knew -- that is what i would do.
And so i did. Now i make games.
Games lead me to comics, lead me to heroclix, and off the deep end into geekdom - but not being along in my interests anymore made a huge difference.

If i am going to be staring at this bookcase, it better be pretty
My comics havent been fitting in my bookcase very well. I was piling them on top of other books, they were out of order, some had to be turned sideways.
I fixed that today. The brother has borrowed all my Powers, and all the stuff before Annihilation and the Annihilation/Conquest books that I have, so hopefully they fit when i get them back. But i am pleased with the result, i can finally see the spines of my Alias Omnibus etc. Next week's project will be to display my new obsession, HeroClix. I was going to put some out on the bookcase, but they didnt display satisfactorily enough.
It would be nice if i could get all my marvel stuff together, but i cant figure out how to do that. I have the Women of Marvel cards in a binder (thanks Jen! <3) And Firestar. And a bunch of Spider Woman stuff. Maybe one day i will have an office. Then it can all live in there!
Edit - i know some of it is out of order, Mystic Arcanna onward specifically. If you have suggestions as to continuity, please tell me! I am a stickler for it!
